About Us

With an uninterrupted activity spanning three centuries of history, the Società Filarmonica di Turriaco is one of the most deeply rooted and tradition-rich brass bands in the entire Friuli Venezia Giulia region.

The first “banda di Turriaco” was founded in 1870, on the initiative of a small group of local music enthusiasts.

Its first steps were taken under the direction of maestro Guglielmo Szubert, and it was formally constituted as the Società Filarmonica di Turriaco in December 1900. After various vicissitudes — including an internal split that led, at the turn of the century, to the coexistence of two distinct bands — it found its definitive form in 1920, maintaining it until March 2017 when, by unanimous decision of the members' assembly, it was transformed into a Social Promotion Association (APS).

A witness to the historical evolution that transformed the Isonzo lands from Habsburg territory to an integral part of the Italian state, the ensemble represents an exceptional trait d'union between the most recent musical trends and the rhythms and sounds of Central European culture.

The ensemble currently consists of around thirty active members, joined — depending on the occasion — by friends who enjoy making music together with us.

Independent in its organisational and administrative management, the Association is governed by a board of directors elected by the members' assembly.
